Bees consume between 7 and 8 pounds of honey to make 1 pound of beeswax. It is secreted, drop by precious drop, from a special gland on the worker bee abdomen. Beekeepers strive to preserve the beeswax honeycomb by uncapping the cells and spinning out the honey, so that the bees can reuse the comb. The wax cappings are collected, melted and formed into large blocks at the time of honey harvest. We then re-melt and filter this wax through cheesecloth in small batches. With a deep yellow color, and a wonderful fragrance, pure beeswax is a beautiful thing.
