Hot Tupelo Honey. Virgin & Slow-Spun.
Award-winning Tupelo Honey from Smiley Honey — now infused with a gentle, gourmet heat.
Floral Source & Origin
At the heart of our Hot Tupelo Honey lies the same rare and extraordinary nectar that has made Smiley Honey famous. Each spring, for only a few fleeting weeks, the white tupelo tree (Nyssa ogechee) bursts into delicate greenish-white blossoms along the Apalachicola and Altamaha river systems. When the weather is perfect — mild temperatures, soft humidity, and clear skies — the nectar flow begins in earnest. Our bees work these blossoms with a devotion that matches our own, gathering the precious nectar that becomes our “virgin” Tupelo Honey.
This limited harvest, treasured for its purity and unmistakable flavor, forms the base of our Hot Tupelo Honey. We source our tupelo exclusively from the historic river systems that produce the world’s finest quality.
Flavor Profile
Hot Tupelo Honey begins exactly the way pure tupelo should: with a bright, fruity-floral lift followed by its iconic buttery, velvety finish. But then comes the twist — a warm, radiant heat that unfolds slowly, never harsh, never overwhelming. Instead, the spice complements the honey’s natural softness, adding depth, contrast, and a luxurious lingering warmth.
It is not “burn your tongue” hot. It is refined heat. Southern heat. A glow rather than a blaze.
Drizzle it on fried chicken, roasted vegetables, cheese boards, pizza, biscuits, or simply enjoy it by the spoonful. One taste and customers usually say something like, “Wow… I didn’t know hot honey could taste this good.”
Slow to Sugar (If Ever)
Because Hot Tupelo Honey is made with our pure, high-fructose virgin tupelo honey, it shares the same remarkable resistance to crystallization. Tupelo’s naturally high fructose-to-glucose (F:G) ratio means it stays liquid and smooth far longer than most raw honeys — sometimes forever.
As always, the bees decide the final composition. During bloom, they may gather trace amounts of nectar from other plants, which can occasionally introduce slight natural sugaring over time. If you spot tiny crystals forming at the bottom, that’s just the bees adding their own seasonal artistry. Simply warm gently if you prefer it clear again.
