Smiley Honey’s Southern Appalachian Treasure

Sourwood honey is the crown jewel of Smiley Honey's collection. Harvested from the rugged hills of North Carolina and Georgia, this honey captures the essence of summer in the mountains.

What Is Sourwood Honey?

Sourwood trees bloom for just a few weeks each July. Their delicate white flowers carpet the mountainsides, but gathering their nectar is no easy feat. The beekeepers trek into remote areas, positioning hives on what little flat ground they can find. It's a gamble - summer storms can wash out an entire harvest - but the payoff is worth it when we bring Sourwood honey for sale to you.

The Taste of Summer

Crack open a jar of our honey, you get all the sourwood honey benefits. You're also in for a treat!

Light amber color, almost golden
Smooth, buttery texture that melts on your tongue
Distinct flavor with hints of caramel and anise
Clean, lingering sweetness without being cloying

The Sourwood Difference

Limited supply: We typically sell out by early fall
Raw and unfiltered: Preserving all the natural goodness
Award-winning: Two-time "Best Honey" winner at Apimondia

A Local Tradition

Every July, folks gather in North Carolina for the Black Mountain Sourwood Festival. It's a celebration of the unique sourwood honey taste and the culture surrounding it. While we can't bring you the festival, we can bring you a taste of what makes it special.
